The Mi MIX series is back, but this time following the trend of folding mobiles. With this launch, Xiaomi joins the club of the great manufacturers in betting on mobile phones with flexible screens , a fairly exclusive club where until recently we could only count on Huawei and Samsung. The Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold as it was baptized, is a fairly innovative folding terminal with top-of-the-range specifications, which is Xiaomi’s most expensive mobile to date, but still manages to be more affordable than its competitors direct. With that said, it’s time to meet him.
Obviously the most interesting thing here is the screen, but before diving into that aspect, let’s talk a little about its design, which is designed to bend inwards like the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Huawei Mate X2. Both the screen and the back cover are covered by Gorilla Glass 5, but there is a special edition with a ceramic body, textured back and gold frame. Also, the fingerprint reader is mounted on the side and acts as a power button.

Moving on to the main course we have the screen, which is made up of an 8.01-inch OLED panel with WQHD + resolution and 4: 3 aspect ratio . That extra inch earns it the title of the folding mobile with the largest screen in the world, but that detail is not as interesting as the fact that it consists of Dolby Vision Display technology. The panel may not have a high refresh rate, but it does feature 600 nit brightness , HDR10 + support, and DCI-P3 color gamut.
As expected, the main attraction of the Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold is that it can be folded and used as a tablet or smartphone, and for this last purpose it has a secondary AMOLED screen . It offers a diagonal of “only” 6.52 inches with an unusual resolution of 2520 x 840 pixels, which translates into a 27: 9 aspect ratio. Its weirdness aside, this panel has a maximum brightness of 900 nits and, more interestingly, it achieves a 90HZ refresh rate coupled with a 180Hz touch sample rate.
It should be noted that, unlike the main panel, this one does have a hole to house a selfie / front camera, which, by the way, outlines a 20MP sensor.
The manufacturer promises that the Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold can be folded a million times thanks to the reinforced hinges , as well as ensuring that the screens can rescale the resolution of images and videos to double, this through artificial intelligence we assume.

Inside, the Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold houses Qualcomm’s flagship chip of the moment, a Snapdragon 888 , which is accompanied by 12GB / 16GB of LPPDR5 RAM and 256GB / 512GB of internal UFS 3.1 storage (not expandable). Not only is the set powerful, it is also backed by a complex cooling system, combining liquid cooling with thermal gel and multiple layers of graphite to dissipate heat.
On top of all that, it has quad speakers tuned and certified by the renowned audio firm Harman Kardon .
The battery is another virtue of the Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold, since it unites two 2,460mAh + 2,560mAh cells to provide a total of 5,020mAh. The interesting thing here is that it supports fast charging of 67W (Quick Charge 4+) capable of fully charging the device in just 37 minutes. This means that it is the folding mobile with the fastest charge on the market, although it should be noted that it is only cable charging, there is no wireless type.
In terms of the operating system, it runs Android 10 with MIUI 12 , and as regards its wireless connectivity, it consists of 5G, Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6 and NFC. Needless to say, this iteration of MIUI 12 is optimized to take advantage of the large screen real estate and multitask with multiple windows open at the same time, including an optional desktop mode .
Cameras
The cameras of the Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold perhaps deserve their own article, since they employ an ingenious 8MP liquid lens solution that allows it to act as a macro camera (with a focus distance of 3CM) and at the same time as a telephoto, providing optical zoom of 3 magnification to set and 30X telescopic zoom.
Not to mention the 7-piece 108MP H2 main camera and the 13MP ultra-wide camera with 123 ° field of view. As if that weren’t enough, the camera has its own dedicated chip for image processing, called the Surge C1.
Availability and price of the Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold
At the moment, the Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold has only been officially presented in China, where it will go on sale on April 16, so we are waiting for an international launch. It is priced at 9,999 yuan in its base version (1,296 euros at the change) , meanwhile, the special edition with a ceramic body and 16GB of RAM will cost 12,999 yuan (1,686 euros at the change).
