2022 may be one of the best years of the video game: these are the most outstanding releases
God of War, Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, Starfield or Elden Ring among other highly desired games have something in common: they all premiere in 2022! There are so many great video games to choose from that next year may be one of the best and most spectacular for the e-entertainment industry. In this special we review some of the most anticipated titles that will go on sale in 2022.
As the months go by, the list of games that are delayed until 2022 grows and grows, leaving us with a truly spectacular catalog of future releases . This does not mean that this year we will not enjoy great video games, there have been and will be, but it is no less true that in 2022 some of the most desired video games of the moment will go on sale, including long-awaited works such as new Zelda game on Nintendo Switch, Kratos’ next great adventure on PlayStation consoles, or new works from Fromsoftware and Bethesda Softworks, with their exclusive space RPG for PC and Xbox.
There are so many great video games that have already confirmed their launch next year, that at 3DJuegos we wanted to bring them together in this special, so that at a glance you can get an idea of what is to come. And the most likely thing is that the list grows and grows even more since there are still a few video games that we have been talking about for a long time, and that will probably also set their release date in 2022. For that reason you do not see games like the new Fable here , Final Fantasy XVI, the recently announced remake of Dead Space , or the next Star Wars and Indiana Jones titles. They do not have an approximate release date, so they are waiting to join this impressive list over the months.
Do you miss a video game? Which of these is the one you most expect for next year? Do not hesitate to share your opinion with the rest of 3DJuegos readers.
Elden ring
From the authors of Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Sekiro you always hope for the best, that’s why there was a lot, a lot of desire to discover Elden Ring, his new video game developed in collaboration with the author of Game of Thrones, who has been in charge of shaping the new one -and fearsome- fantasy universe in which the action of the FromSoftware game takes place. The result? A trailer that excites fans of the Japanese studio, and that makes us expect the best of this new title directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki. Without a doubt, one of the most desired games of the moment.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus
Pokémon Legends: Arceus is Game Freak’s answer to all those who asked for a jump in the saga after its passage from Nintendo 3DS to Nintendo Switch, an open-world RPG with more action where we travel to a world where concepts such as Pokémon Trainer are quite strangers still. All this can be seen in the game mechanics, which seek to be respectful with the series until now but with enough entity to mark its future. The best of all is that we won’t have to wait long to find out how the play goes to those responsible, it will arrive in January.
STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl
The history of STALKER 2 would give to write a book since this video game was announced in 2010 and shortly after disappearing without a trace for about ten years. And now we are counting the days left to re-explore the gloomy Chernobyl that this GSC Game World video game recreates, facing mutants, other survivors and paranormal events that will make us walk in fear. What new mysteries await us on this gigantic battlefield? What we know is that the game looks incredible, and its authors promise hundreds of hours for those who want to discover every last secret of this adventure.
Redfall
A video game from Arkane Studios is always good news, and if we are fans of fantasy and horror creatures like vampires even more so. Redfall is one of the bets of the award-winning team responsible for Prey and Dishonored for this 2022, leading players to join forces with their friends to try to overcome a siege of these spectral beings in an open world FPS. Visually promising, Redfall points out good ways to join us in the summer of next year.
Starfield
Another video game called to mark an era if they meet the expectations of the fans, which are not exactly low at all. After several years betting on Fallout and The Elder Scrolls, Bethesda Game Studios seeks to give it its all with a new IP, a next-generation RPG set among the stars that will give the user unprecedented freedom while on an epic journey to unravel the greatest mystery of The humanity. Anything else? Yes! It already has a release date.
A Plague Tale: Requiem
The first installment of this new franchise was a surprise for the public with one of the best stories that we have had the pleasure of enjoying in recent years in 3DJuegos. Now those responsible, the French team of Asobo Studios, are under pressure to meet quite high expectations among players, taking us back in 2022 to medieval France ravaged by the pandemic that so overwhelmed us in 2019 in a narrative adventure loaded with stealth.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
More than a decade later, Avatar will return to theaters with a saga that promises to once again be a leader at the box office for several years, but that will also be well accompanied from the world of video games with Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. It is a first-person action adventure developed by Massive Entertainment, conceived as an independent story of the film franchise, which will take us to travel like a na’vi through a never-before-seen part of the leafy Pandora.
Frspoken
Luminous Productions – 2022 (PC, PS5)
It does not seem that Final Fantasy XVI will be available in 2022, but from Square Enix they do have a great RPG for this next course: Forspoken. This open-world role-playing adventure was presented alongside PS5 in 2020, soon standing out for offering an ambitious technological leap, and proposes traveling through the fantastic and dangerous lands of Athia in the role of Frey Holland, a young current who has to control his magical abilities. If you don’t have PS5 don’t worry, Forspoken will launch on PC as well.
God of War: Ragnarok (Working name)
SIE Santa Monica Studio – 2022 (PS5, PS4)
God of War: Ragnarok will arrive when it is ready, and that points to a date to be determined in 2022 after recently confirming that its development would not end in 2021. Details on production are certainly scarce, but players can expect a continuation of travels through the Scandinavian mythology of Kratos and Atreus, with new enemies to defeat and places to visit, all now with the power of the new generation, although it will also be released on PS4.
Gran Turismo 7
More than eight years will be completed this course since the last numerical installment of Gran Turismo 6, and the wait will be even longer than what we expected a few weeks ago. GT 7 confirmed a delay in its launch date, leaving us without the spectacular Polyphony Digital races in 2021, but if there are no more inconveniences in 2022, it will not happen without seeing the commitment to the high speed of PlayStation for new generation consoles, although also You have reserved a site on PS4.
Hogwarts legacy
Another video game that had to have come this course. But fear not, magic will return in 2022 with Hogwarts Legacy, the first great video game for PC and consoles in the Harry Potter universe that invites us to travel to the school of magic and sorcery long before the events of Fantastic Animals and, obviously, the main series. An action role-playing title with great freedom for players to fulfill their dream of becoming students of the school imagined by JK Rowling.
Gotham knights
Batman is dead, it is time for those who helped him in the battle to become protagonists to save Gotham from the thousand and one villains that besiege it. Thus begins Gotham Knights, the new adventure set in the universe of the Cloak Crusader, although it is not related to the Batman: Arkham saga, in which players can dress up as Nightwing, Batgirl, Red Hood or Robin (Tim Drake) . It had to arrive in 2021, but to the regret of many it had to be delayed a year.
Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope
It has been done to beg but the one that is one of the great Nintendo Switch exclusives has finally released its long-awaited sequel, which also seems to be inspired by the phenomenal Super Mario Galaxy on Wii. Because yes, in Mario + Rabbids 2 we will travel from one planet to another while enjoying the exciting turn-based battles of this strategy game starring the characters from Super Mario and the crazy Rabbids from Rayman. With new heroes to choose from, more special powers and new weapons, this colorful adventure from Ubisoft is one of the most exciting proposals of 2022.
Splatoon 3
2022 also marks the return of Splatoon with a third installment that takes us to fight through the region of Tintelia, a scorching desert inhabited by the most hardened Inkling and Octarians, where territorial combat is the star and battles unfold in new scenarios in Full nature. From Nintendo they promise quite a lot of news in the saga, although we will have to wait for the next Nintendo Direct to learn more about this colorful shooter from the Japanese firm.
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin was one of the surprise announcements of the past E3 2021, creating with it a new spin-off saga within Final Fantasy to focus, without fuss, 100% on the action. For this Square Enix commissioned the project to Team Ninja, all experts in this type of video game. As if that were not enough, thousands of players around the world have already been able to try the adventure and give their verdict, with quite different results, but there is a year left until its launch.
Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League
It’s still set for 2022, but we don’t know how the Gotham Knights delay will have affected Rocksteady’s plans to release it next season. If it does, players will once again enjoy one of the best studios when it comes to making superhero video games, villains in this case, in a hilarious open-world adventure in which we have to free Metropolis and the world from the clutches by Brainiac. It will not be easy at all having Superman as rivals as well.
Sonic Rangers (working name)
We still do not have official details beyond a small teaser, and in fact we do not have a real baptism for the production either, since Sonic Rangers is still a working title that was mistakenly escaped to SEGA in their press releases. But a new installment of the blue platform hero of the Japanese firm developed by Sonic Team is always good news, and it will surely become one of the great events of the year to come.
The Callisto Protocol
Striking Distance Studios – 2022 (PC, PS4, XSeries)
A video game set 300 years in the future of the PUBG universe. This may perhaps confuse you at first, but in reality The Calisto Protocol has little to do with battle-royale, betting on being more of a spiritual heir to Dead Space. At the end of the day, it is a development signed by one of its creators, a combination of horror, action and immersive history in a prison located in one of the Jupiter satellites that seeks to reach a new milestone in the genre.
The King of Fighters XV
SNK – 2022 (Platforms to be determined)
The best fight of SNK Playmore was another of these proposals called to give us many joys, especially to its not a few followers, in 2021. But the pandemic got in the way and deprived us of a video game that has to be conceived to last for many years on the shelves (physical or virtual) of fans of the fighting genre. During these last months we have been getting to know its protagonists, so its launch should not take long and arrive in 2022.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2
Nintendo – 2022 (Switch)
Planned for 2022 we also find The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, or The sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. His name is still not clear, but his commitment to continue the wonderful legacy left by Eiji Anouma’s team in its first installment, although that does not prevent seeing a title with some other weighty novelty, starting with the possibility of exploring the always beautiful Hyrule skies. Will Nintendo make us fall in love again with this game?
Two Point Campus
Two Point Studios – 2022 (PC, PS5, PS4, XSeries, XOne, Switch)
Did you like Two Point Hospital? Are you a fan of the management games of the mythical Bullfrog? Well get ready because Two Point Campus promises to have a lot of fun as we build the most surreal and fun university campus you can imagine. Personalization options are growing, there is much more to build, but the management of the personal lives of our students, whom we must take care of during their formative years, also gains importance.
Rainbow Six Extraction
Ubisoft Montreal – January 2022 (PC, PS5, PS4, XSeries, XOne, Stadia)
We expected it in 2021 but a new delay has brought the cooperative action of Rainbow Six Extraction to 2022. With the promise of offering a tactical game experience, in the style of the successful Siege, the new from Ubisoft quite convinced us in our impressions of Rainbow Six Extraction , in which we already notice the harshness of a shooter that does not joke around. And that tension and that need to work as a team make us look forward to its launch, now, later than desired.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
fter massacring thousands of enemies in the crazy Borderlands universe, now it’s your turn to get lost in a kingdom more typical of Dungeons & Dragons, but with the no less crazy Tina Chiquitina as the protagonist. This video game is inspired by the brilliant RPG DLC of Borderlands 2 and like this one, it poses the action like that of a great fantasy RPG in which we will have freedom to create our character, although the weapons cannot be modified. But these, of course, will be super varied and super wacky to honor the Borderlands essence. All this with multiplayer for four as the main axis of the action.
GhostWire: Tokyo
Another last minute delay that adds to this list. GhostWire: Tokyo is the new video game from the authors of The Evil Within and Resident Evil’s father, Shinji Mikami. We have known about him for a couple of years but to this day it is still a great mystery, although of course, although there is action, deep down it is a mystery story. One with great promises under its arm, as its managers promise to provide players with “an experience like never seen before.” With a very striking aesthetic and the commitment to first-person combat based on the Kuji-kiri ritual based on hand gestures, it is one of those games that you should not lose sight of.
