WHAT ARE EASY GRIPS AND WHAT ARE THEY FOR?

In this article, I will discuss with details WHAT ARE EASY GRIPS AND WHAT ARE THEY FOR?

What are easy-grips (or writing aids)?

They are aids in soft plastic or rubber, to be inserted on the writing instrument, which facilitate the correct grip of the same.

    Why use the easy-grips?

    • They have a comfortable and ergonomic design
    • They are studied and designed by medical specialists
    • They promote a correct grip in the act of writing
    • They avoid the formation of annoying calluses on the fingers
    • They dissuade from the “fist” handle
    • They reduce physical stress, fatigue and hand pain
    • They facilitate the act of writing, allowing for greater concentration
    • They strengthen self-control, giving security to the person concerned

    Who are the easy-grips for?

Do not think that the easy-grips are only of help to children who learn to write in 1st grade. A correct grip can be taught to them even by younger children, when they draw with pencils and markers. In addition, the writing aids are also valid tools for adults who experience difficulties in writing or joint pains related to the grip. Not to mention that easy-grips are perfect aids to bring people with disabilities closer to the world of writing, facilitating them and making them more autonomous.

    What is the correct handle?

The pen rests on the phalanx of the middle finger, while the index and thumb support and guide it. You can hold the pen more or less vertically on the paper and more or less close to the tip.

When is it advisable to use an easy-grip?

The easy-grips are indicated for correcting several “wrong” grips. Let’s see them together:

1 The pen is held between the thumb and forefinger, with the index finger crushing the thumb.
2 The pen is held with the fingertips, with the thumb on one side and the middle and index finger on the other.
3 The thumb is bent over the pen, while the index and middle fingers press it on the ring finger.
4 The pen is straight between the index and middle fingers, pressed against the thumb.
5 The tips of the index, middle and ring fingers are on one side of the pen, the thumb on the other.
6 Thumb on one side, index and middle fingers on the other, all press the pen to the ring finger.
7 The index finger holds the pen, pressing it against the middle finger, while the thumb crushes the index finger.
8 The thumb holds the pen by itself, with the help of the palm of the hand, while the other fingers remain bent.
9 The pen is held from above, pinched between the fingers and pressed against the thumb.

How do you use the easy-grips?

Just stick them on the pen or pencil, just above the tip; they fit many different writing instruments. As a rule, L / R is indicated on all easy-grips: left-handers will put their thumbs on L, right-handers on R and the other fingers will arrange themselves naturally and comfortably around the helpwriter.

How do you choose the right easy-grip?

It is impossible and risky to make generalizations: each grip problem can have different causes and solutions; for this reason it is important that parents, educators, teachers and therapists pay attention, analyze the problem and provide those who need help writing the most suitable solution. Here are some guidelines to facilitate the choice.
