A study shows that Red Dead Redemption 2 teaches players about wildlife, fauna and flora
Rockstar game users were more knowledgeable than others and have applied it in reality to save their lives.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the most meticulous games we’ve probably seen throughout history to date. Rockstar’s neatness in representing every aspect, no matter how small, makes the adventure a unique experience. And not only is the Arthur Morgan story fun to live through , it can also be educational. This is reflected in a study by the University of Exeter, in England , where they point out that the title can teach players about the American fauna of that time.
It should be remembered that RDR 2 takes place in 1899, and along its places we can see around 200 species of animals, including birds and fish . All of them have their own behavior and response to their natural ecosystem, as reflected from Rockstar. Each of them is, of course, where it fits with its climate or habitat thanks to the realistic ecosystem created, which has attracted the attention even of academics, as they have from BES.
The study shows the incredible realism of the gameFrom Exeter they highlight, in a study created in collaboration with Truro and Penwith College, that players can learn while about the wildlife of the United States thanks to RDR 2. For this they did a test, challenging the players to identify photographs of animals real, and they knew how to solve them thanks to having seen them in the video game with the role of naturalists. 585 people of 55 different nationalities participated; of these, 444 had played Rockstar play.
Users of the game identified, on average, a total of 10 to 15 animals on average, results that were three times higher than those who had not played. Obviously, those who played the adventure for more hours had more knowledge . The experts who have carried out the study also echo the real-life learnings , using as an example what a player said, who detected that a ram was about to charge him because he saw the behavior in the game. “It saved me from breaking my leg,” he says.
