AMD Ryzen 5700G vs 5600G performance comparison

AMD Ryzen 5700G vs 5600G performance comparison

What is the best APU for my use? Does it make up for the difference in price?

After the AMD Ryzen 5000 , Lisa Su presented the APUs based on Zen 3. They release processors and we benchmarks to inform you more and better, so we share this Ryzen 7 5700G vs Ryzen 5 5600G with the aim of seeing their performance in various scenarios.

It’s the 2 APUs of the moment and the Ryzen 7 5700G is the first chip with powerful integrated graphics to come with 8 cores since AMD launched these desktop products. There are hopes placed on overclocking RAM, but the truth is that the performance of these processors based on Zen 3 is not bad at all, will 6 cores be enough or will it be worth going up to 8?

Considering the specifications of each AMD APU , say that both are manufactured in an improved TSMC 7nm FinFET node , protagonist of Zen 3 . AMD has been somewhat criticized for the graphics implemented in these APUs, as an RDNA architecture was expected (at the very least).

For now, we will have to wait for Rembrandt to see RDNA 2 on a desktop chip. The truth is that we can buy the AMD 4700S kit (without the word Ryzen in between) which is a mini-itx motherboard with a soldered AMD SoC, as in the PlayStation 5. This SoC comes with RDNA 2 graphics and a CPU with Zen 2 architecture, just like the next-gen we’ve seen.

I honestly do not understand these movements on the part of AMD, since it has not wanted to implement RDNA 2 in these APUs.

    Test bench and data source

Starting with the data source , we started with our review of the AMD Ryzen 5 5600G , but we had to go to external sources for the review of the AMD Ryzen 7 5700G . To do this, we have relied on the TechPowerUp review due to the similarities between its test bench and ours.

    Synthetic benchmarks

    Ryzen 5 5600G vs Ryzen 7 5700G

Starting with the synthetic tests, we have brought together the pairs between the two reviews because each team works in one way. We see little difference in single, but in multi-core the Ryzen 7 5700G wins this first vs Ryzen 5 5600G with solvency, and it is that they are 6 vs 8 cores.

The 6-core APU offers a fight in Blender and achieves 2 seconds less than the Ryzen 7, placing the duel in a technical tie when it comes to synthetic benchmarks. More synthetic tests are done in each review.

    Game testing

We remember that the test benches are starred by 3 key elements  for gaming:

    • Ryzen 5 5600G vs Ryzen 7 5700G.
    • Same amount of RAM, although 3600 MHz vs 3800 MHz.
    • Same GPU ( RTX 3080 ), although TechPowerUp opts for the EVGA custom model.

We have tested 4 video games with ultra quality (all at the maximum) and we compare results:

    • Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
    • Far Cry 5.
    • DOOM Eternal.
    • Metro Exodus.

    Ryzen 5 5600G vs Ryzen 7 5700G games

    The conclusions are as follows:

    • The Ryzen 7 5700G beats the Ryzen 5 5600G with credit for 1080p, but playing in QHD and 4K is an uphill battle.
    • There are isolated victories on the part of the Ryzen 5 5600G , which is striking.
    • The performance gap narrows when we raise the resolution.

    IGPU performance

    benchmark ryzen 5 5600g vs ryzen 7 5700g

And using only the iGPU ? Both TechPowerUp, as we, have had the same idea and have tested the same video games using low settings in order to obtain a decent performance. It’s funny but there are 2 victories for each APU in these conditions, difficult to choose?

What is clear is that neither of the 2 iGPUs is powerful enough to play 1080p in decent conditions (in these games). We will have to wait for the next APUs with RDNA 2 for architecture, which will be much more interesting than Vega graphics .

    Consumption and temperatures

    ryzen 5700g vs 5600g consumption

We have not been able to gather data for the idle temperatures of the Ryzen 7 5700G, so it only records the temperatures on load. To say that we have not reflected the temperatures and the consumption in OC, but we warn that it shoots up quite a bit.

The Ryzen 7 5700G vs Ryzen 5 5600G has a higher consumption of the 8-core chip , but the temperatures are stuck in load, even though we have not used the same AIO kit.

Final conclusions about the 5600G vs 5700G

The price of these two Ryzen processors with integrated graphics has increased compared to their previous versions:

    • Around € 280 for the Ryzen 5 5600G .
    • Almost € 400 for the Ryzen 7 5700G .

Without a doubt, they are high prices, considering that all the Ryzen 5000 have increased their price compared to the Ryzen 3000 (Zen 2). It is true that they have been improved, but the controversy is that, so much to pay € 50 more on average?

To answer that question, we would have to compare its performance to that of the previous generation . The truth is that the desktop Ryzen 5 4600G have only been sold in OEM equipment, so we have not been able to test them in Professional Review. Therefore, the only generation we have for reference is that of the Ryzen 5 3400G , whose architecture was Zen +.

In the same way, it is the first time that we see AMD selling a Ryzen 7 APU without it being in an OEM team: that is, by parts. The performance shown is more than decent, but falls short of the Ryzen 7 5800X. The question is, is a Ryzen 7 APU worth it ?

    • It can be interesting to play video games like CS: GO , Minecraft, Fornite or some other title at 720p and with low settings.
    • The team TechPowerUp , showed how iGPU of the Ryzen 7 5700G exceeded 60 FPS at 720p without breaking a sweat in BattleField V, Borderlands 3 Counter-Strike: GO, Dota 2, Far Cry 5, The Witcher 3 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider . In fact, we see how 100 and 200 FPS are exceeded without problems in certain titles.
    • Given the shortage of graphics cards , it seems to me a very interesting solution to “go fiddling” with, its performance is not far from the Ryzen 7 5800X!
    • It is a more complete processor than another Ryzen 5000.
    • The ability to overclock higher RAM will always be there.

On the other hand, AM4 will come to an end with the arrival of the Ryzen 7000 , some processors that will debut the AM5 platform . Therefore, we are facing the latest AMD APUs for this platform and with integrated graphics that will not match RDNA 2.

We understand that whoever opts for one of these 2 APUs is not looking to pair them with a dedicated graphics card, but their graphics performance is limited. So the price is too high ? Taking into account everything that comes with Zen 4 , it does seem high to me because Zen 3 is a more than mature product because it comes with practically the same Zen 2: 7 nm node.

Obviously, they will not have the circulation of the rest of Ryzen 5000 chips, but this market does have its audience. What does seem clear is that discrete graphics cards ( dGPU ) lose their sense with chips like these on the market.
