Audi has unveiled the first member of a new family of concept vehicles, a spectacular roadster. Audi Skysphere is the name of the electrically powered two-door convertible whose lines lead directly to the Audi design of tomorrow. However, before we get very excited, it is important to note that at the moment it is just a concept, and there is nothing that guarantees that one day we will see it on the market. With that cleared up, now we can treat ourselves to meeting him.
Audi Skysphere, this is how the future of Audi paints : Audi Skysphere, a spectacular concept of electric sports car
Well, first of all, this electric roadster represents the vision that Audi has for its next electric cars; so the Audi skysphere ideas will probably become the norm in a few years.
Its design was done entirely by digital means and through the cooperation of Audi engineers spread across its teams in Germany and the United States. The fruit of this collaboration is a luxurious and comfortable gran turismo car, equipped with a chassis capable of being transformed by means of a hydraulic system. In this sense, this convertible can extend the wheelbase by 250mm . It would go from measuring 9.49 meters in its Sport mode to measuring 5.19 meters long in its GT mode.
When this last mode is activated, the Audi Skysphere essentially becomes a car with autonomy of level 4 , that is not to mention that it converts itself and hides some elements, and by that we mean the steering wheel and the pedals, since it would consist of driving autonomous (in theory).
When it comes to mobility, an electric motor mounted on the motorized rear axle is responsible for delivering power to the wheels of the Audi skysphere. A total of 465 kilowatts of power and 750 Newtons of torque gently propels the roadster, whose theoretical weight is 1,800 kilograms. Also, we would be contemplating an acceleration from 0 to 100km / h in a matter of 4 seconds. Not bad, eh?
To put the icing on the cake, the roadster promises active air suspensions, steered wheels (all wheels) and an atypical battery setup; being located in the rear area and extending through the central tunnel and the passenger compartment seats. Finally, the autonomy would be greater than 500km thanks to the 80kHw battery on board this vehicle.
