AUTUMN: CRAFTS WITH THE LEAVES

    AUTUMN: CRAFTS WITH THE LEAVES

Explore shapes, colors and lots of different leaves with this easy-to-set art activity – take advantage of the nature your kids can find right in the outdoor area.

Very versatile in its simplicity, the whole experience can take place outdoors, or it can be set up in the indoor art area , bringing nature into the classroom.Necessary material:

    – Paper

    – Thick tip markers of different colors

    – Freshly picked leaves

    Instructions:

    1. Take a walk outside, collecting leaves as you walk. Look for those that are sturdy, strong, and have a venous structure on the underside. Use this experience to recognize and discuss the different types of leaves. Ask the children about the shapes they see, for example a birch leaf has a tip, almost like a triangle with a round bottom, or a maple leaf has 5 points, just like 5 fingers on the hand.
    2. Place paper, markers, and leaves on a table or other flat surface.
    3. Color the entire back (veined side) of the leaf using thick-tipped markers. Tip: Place a scrap piece of paper underneath, so that the child can paint right up to the edges of the leaf.
    4. Quickly, while the ink is still wet, turn the leaf over onto a piece of white or light-colored paper. Holding the leaf firmly so it doesn’t move, press to transfer the color to the paper. Older children can handle it on their own, but younger children can ask an adult for help.
    5. Continue, using differently shaped leaves and colors to create a beautiful collage of leaf-shaped prints. Do your kids need to let loose a little after focusing on this activity?

Let them collect as many leaves as possible, piling them together. Running a short distance and jumping into the pile of leaves (one at a time, of course) will make the leaves fly and bring yells of joy!
