Since the new conditions of use of WhatsApp came into force on May 15, countless hoaxes and false information of all kinds have appeared. We review some of the most outstanding campaigns.
On Saturday, May 15, the new conditions of use and privacy policy of WhatsApp came into force . European users are not affected in the same way as the rest, although some things have changed. The good news is that, despite the fact that the platform initially stated that users who did not accept the new terms would gradually lose functions , finally WhatsApp has rectified and will not reduce benefits to people who do not accept the new conditions .
In recent months, the new WhatsApp privacy policy has made rivers of ink flow, which has led to the appearance of false news and hoaxes that try to deceive users . Next we are going to review some of them so that you do not sting.
The hoax of the return of paid WhatsApp is one of them. It has been circulating for a few weeks, and it is a message that is spreading through groups and private chats. The message says that the platform will charge you 0.01 euros if you do not forward the text to 10 contacts or more . It is completely false, so ignore if you receive it and tell the person who sent it that it is a hoax.
Another false information that is being propagated again is the one that claims that you can avoid WhatsApp’s new policy by forwarding a message . This hoax began to spread a few months ago, when the news that the platform was going to update its conditions of use, and now it is circulating again.
First firm conviction in Spain for using hacked Windows 10: Don’t be fooled: all these things will NOT happen on WhatsApp
The message in question is the one you can see in the following screenshot. It points out that WhatsApp will be able to see and use your photos, and that if you forward the message in 10 groups you will be protected against this new regulation. Again, this is completely untrue, so don’t forward it and let whoever sent it to you.
Another WhatsApp hoax that is spreading these days is one that ensures that the platform has changed the configuration of the groups at night and without informing users. Note that, because of this modification, anyone can add you to a group without your consent, even if they do not know you.
But this information is false, since since 2019 users have the possibility to control who can add us to a group .
