Fallout 76 hopes players will give it a second chance: “we have made major changes”
Its design director believes the updates have made it “a very story-driven game.”
Fallout 76 debuted in 2018 surrounded by criticism, first from those who accused its exit performance, and then from those who did not welcome its MMO proposal further from the RPG singleplayer that characterizes the saga. It’s been a long road for the Bethesda title, offering updates and expansions to turn the tide, with its turning point being the launch of the Wastelanders expansion . And with Fallout 76 turned into a very different game than it was before, its creators believe they deserve a second chance .
“We have heard the comments of ‘this does not feel like a Fallout game’ and, since launch, we have made major changes ,” says Design Director Mark Tucker in an interview with Newsweek. With updates like Wastelanders, which populated the game world with human NPCs and more traditional storylines, the creative believes Fallout 76 “is now a very story-driven game . You’re going to have some great conversations with the NPCs and some interesting decisions to make. “.

If you are a fan of traditional RPGs, now there are tons of things to exploreJeff Gardiner” There’s a very deep narrative going on,” says Tucker. To this, Fallout 76 chief producer Jeff Gardiner adds that “if you are a fan of stories, or a fan of traditional RPGs like myself, now there are a lot of things for you to explore. So please jump in the game and give us a chance . ” For now, it seems that some have already given the game a second chance thanks to its updates – and its inclusion in Xbox Game Pass – as its number of users increased in 2020 .
And in the meantime, Bethesda continues to work on the Fallout 76 roadmap with planned new content, like that Fallout 3-inspired expedition coming in 2022. It’s been a rough ride for the game. So much so that even Todd Howard himself claims that ” there were few things we didn’t screw it up on ” with its release. But now, two and a half years later, Fallout 76 looks for a new opportunity.
