Guadalupe, English teacher and Superprof ambassador: Guadalupe’s experience and point of view when it comes to teaching English

I can define myself in two words: curious and diverse. I love learning new things and not getting stuck in a single field, although since I started in the world of language teaching I have discovered that I am passionate about teaching English, so right now I dedicate myself fully to my classes and my students.

Could you tell us a little about your academic career?:Guadalupe’s experience and point of view when it comes to teaching English

I studied for 6 years at the UA (University of Argentina) the title of Social Communication, later I did a cabin crew course and another on personal training.
Regarding languages, I started studying English when I was 14 years old and I also speak a little Italian since part of my family lives in Italy.

And your professional career?

When I lived in Argentina, teaching English was a hobby for me, I didn’t do it full time because I had work in other areas. Mainly, I developed my career in three different fields:

Marketing and Communication

Commercial: selling advertising

Secretary of direction
Two years ago, when I arrived in Spain I worked in the Hospitality sector but my experience here was not very good so I decided to focus on teaching and dedicate myself to it full time.
How were your professional beginnings as a language teacher?
When I made the decision to dedicate myself 100% to it, the first thing I did was publish ads on specialized pages, I created my own logo and also some business cards. Right now I am thinking of creating my own website to be able to offer my services and at the same time convey a more professional image.
Like Guadalupe, many people decide to jump into teaching
What is the main objective of your students when they turn to you as an English teacher?
The main objective of my students is to gain fluency when speaking. In general, everyone has difficulties launching into speaking a language other than their mother tongue, and it is something I can understand because personally I have also experienced it. I am learning French and one of my main difficulties in learning is just this. To help them with this obstacle, I try to help the student gain self-confidence and find motivation to learn, not to associate the language with something boring, but to see it as something dynamic.
Students also have specific objectives such as passing a certain exam (university,

Could you tell us a funny anecdote or story that you have lived with your students?

The truth is that I do not have a specific anecdote that I remember. Yes, I can say that I like to teach at all levels but above all I have fun with the children. I love her spontaneity and her innocence. Once a kid in class told me that he was wearing a slightly old vest and it was actually a vintage vest , but I honestly laughed a lot. Children are very sincere.
In economic terms, how much can working at Superprof contribute to you?
I have not been working with Superprof for a long time, since May more less. Through Superprof a student contacted me but the experience was short, about two months or so. The main reason was that after the holidays I contacted him again to resume classes and he had already found a teacher who offered cheaper classes. This is one of the problems that I find in this sector in Spain. In general, people want to get something great at a low price. But I have to admit that I have a market price as a consequence of supply and demand.
Giving private lessons can increase your income … Ask the pig!
For example, an Erasmus student can offer conversation classes at € 14 / hour, but it must be taken into account that in general they do not usually dedicate the necessary time required to prepare a class. We can also meet a teacher who charges a high price of about € 30 / hour. In my case, I charge € 20, not counting the trip to the home of my students. I think it is a reasonable price.
What is the best advice you can give a student?
Without a doubt, the motivation. Language is a fundamental social tool, it is the essence of the human being, it opens doors for you in many different areas; meet new people, find job opportunities and above all, grow as a person.
For me it is the tool of development and personal growth par excellence.

Could you briefly explain your methodology when teaching classes?

Fundamentally what I do is to know the interests of my students in order to be able to make a personalized and dynamic program, although I am also open to proposals from the students because these proposals also help me to improve myself as a teacher.
Each teacher with his booklet! However, their common point is always the same: motivation
What online tools would you recommend to your students?
Right now we have the Internet that makes our work much easier in different areas. As for teaching English, in my case, I especially recommend video calling programs such as FaceTime or Skype.
With this type of program, classes can be taught perfectly without the need to be face to face with the student. For example, if you want to practice listening, just send the link to your student so that they can listen to it and then ask them questions about what they have heard. Ditto, with the grammar exercises.
college, official exams …).
