How does biology influence our daily life?
You don’t have to be a biology student for biology to influence your life ; science exists outside of the laboratory and has an impact on our everyday existence.
Food, for example. When you sit down to breakfast, do you think of the wheat with which the cereal has been made or the flour for bread? And have you ever stopped to think about the cows that produce milk and the plants that they have to eat in order to do so? Everything we eat has its origin in plants, so they are of vital importance, as well as the process of photosynthesis.
But bacterial enzymes are not only linked to the food chain. Our daily tasks can also benefit from the power of these microbes, for example if manufacturers add them to detergents to remove dirt and stains from our clothes.
Have you ever thought that doing laundry could be so educational? The next time you do the laundry, you can feel satisfied, not only by obeying your parents, but by teaching them how the products work.
Last but not least, you may not realize how much we depend on biology in our homes. Although the use of renewable energy is on the rise, we still use fossil fuels to provide us with heat, such as oil and coal.
These fuels are the remains of living organisms that lived on our planet hundreds of millions of years ago and that become sources of energy such as oil, natural gas and coal.
However, now that we are much more aware of the dangers of carbon dioxide, which these fossil fuels emit, they are currently investigating new green sources such as solar energy .How does biology influence our daily life?
