How to recover permanently deleted photos from Android

Let’s start with Android . When you inadvertently delete some photographs, there are security systems built into the Android operating system that help you preserve them. In the worst cases it becomes necessary to download dedicated apps or use computer programs dedicated to recovering deleted data.

In this regard, I would like to tell you right away that if you are forced to use an external program, PC programs tend to be preferable compared to those you can find directly on Android (precisely because of not using the devices from which you have to recover data done in intro). The indications below, however, are valid for any smartphone or tablet that is equipped with the “green robot” operating system: whether you want to know how to recover permanently deleted photos from Samsung , HUAWEI , Xiaomi or other brands’ devices, you will soon know how Act.

How to recover deleted photos from Recycle Bin

    Photo from the Trash

Your smartphone ‘s Gallery includes a security feature called Trash . Virtually all smartphone manufacturers include this feature in their devices and it is normally active by default. The following steps describe the procedure for a Samsung smartphone but even if you have a smartphone from a different manufacturer the procedure will still remain very similar.

First open the Gallery by pressing the appropriate button. The default icon for Samsung resembles a kind of flower . In the screen that opens you will see a button in the shape of three parallel lines at the bottom right : press it.

At this point a box will appear with some items: the one you are interested in is the one called Trash . You should now see all the photos deleted in the last 30 days from your smartphone. To retrieve them, all you have to do is touch them with your finger and, once they are open, press the button that looks like an arrow that turns counterclockwise. If you need to recover many photos instead of opening them one by one you can hold down for a few seconds on one of them and, when it is selected by the system, touch all those you want to recover. Then always press the button in the shape of a circular arrow to be able to get them all back in the Gallery.

Another attempt that I recommend you to do is to open the Google Photos app , if you have it installed and you have activated the backup of photos and videos to the cloud: you may pleasantly find that the photos you have deleted actually still reside on the cloud from Google and then you can easily retrieve them from the latter.

App to recover permanently deleted photos

    Undeleter

If you have already checked the Recycle Bin and there are no photos you deleted and even Google Photos couldn’t help you, you need to use solutions dedicated to recovering deleted files . If you want to try an app to download directly to your device, I suggest you use Undeleter (also available on alternative stores , for devices without Google services). Don’t worry, the app is translated into Italian (although not in all its parts) and is quite simple to use.

Before proceeding, it is important that you understand that the apps to recover deleted photos and files may not always succeed in their purpose, moreover to work at their best they require you to root the smartphone , which gives access to portions of memory normally inaccessible. You can read my guide on how to root Android where I explain the risks, benefits and potential dangers, but since it is a relatively advanced procedure I recommend that you only try it if you feel confident.

Have you installed Undeleter and are you ready to start it? Good. Whether or not you have rooted your phone the interface remains similar. Press the Undeleter icon (you will recognize it because it resembles a white basket on a blue background) and the app will show you pages where it will explain how it works and will ask you for permissions for location and data access. You must grant these accesses by pressing on While using the app and Allow , otherwise you will not be able to proceed.

In the next step Undeleter will detect whether or not you have rooted your device there. If you have not done so, it will warn you that it can only scan the images, so touch the button at the bottom right that says IMAGE SCAN . Undeleter will scan your smartphone’s memory and offer you a list of the photographs it can retrieve.

If you find the image you are interested in , select it and then press the disk -shaped icon at the top right . Then tap Save the file and if you haven’t bought the full version of Undeleter you will need to see a video to actually save the file (the full version of the app costs 7.99 euros and eliminates the ads). Once the advertisement is over, you can find the photograph recovered in the Gallery of your smartphone or tablet.

    PC data recovery programs

    Windows PC

The main advantage of using a PC data recovery program (to which to connect the phone ) is that it is not necessary to root the device directly and, by not using the mobile device actively, the chances of being able to recover the data are increased. deleted photos.

There are many programs available in this area: in this guide you will be able to discover some of the best, such as dr.fone and PhotoRec .

How to recover permanently deleted photos from iPhone

If you are using an iPhone and are concerned that you have lost your photos there is still a possibility that they are recoverable. Unlike Android, however, Apple’s mobile devices “mount” a less flexible operating system and there are no apps dedicated to recovering deleted data. You will therefore have to resort to PC programs, but first I will reveal some possible solutions to recover permanently deleted photos from iPhone without PC .

How to recover photos deleted from Recently Deleted

    recently deleted

The first step I recommend you take is to check the Recently Deleted section of the default iPhone Photos app , which temporarily stores deleted images and videos from the Gallery.

Then open the Photo app by pressing the button in the shape of a multicolored flower . In the screen that appears you will see the photos on your iPhone: to access the recently deleted items, touch the word Album , at the bottom, and access the Recently deleted album ( at the bottom of the screen).

You will be able to see all the photos that you have deleted in the last 40 days. Your iPhone will also tell you how many days are left until these photos are permanently deleted.

When you have found the photo you want to recover , select it and tap first on the Recover button at the bottom right and then on Recover photo . To select (and recover) multiple photos at the same time, click on the Select button (top right), check the photos you are interested in and click on the Recover option at the bottom.

    PC data recovery programs

    Dr Fone

Whether you are using a Windows PC or a Mac, you can use a number of PC data recovery programs to try and recover deleted photos from your iPhone. However, keep in mind that these programs may not be able to recover all your photos, especially if it has been a long time since you deleted them.

You can follow my guide to install and use programs dedicated to recover deleted photos on iPhone, for example EaseUS MobiSaver and the aforementioned dr.fone .

How to recover permanently deleted photos from PC

While using your computer , it can certainly happen that you delete photos without wanting to. Fortunately, Windows moves all deleted files automatically into its Recycle Bin . If you open it, however, you do not find any trace of your photos, do not despair, because I am about to explain to you how to recover photos that have been permanently deleted from the Recycle Bin .

    PhotoRec

    PhotoRec

The first program I want to tell you about is PhotoRec . It is a great free and open source program that can help you recover your photographs. It is compatible with all major computer operating systems: on Windows it has an easy-to-use graphical interface, while on macOS and Linux it is necessary to use it via the command line. Here I will explain the use on Windows.

To get it, just go to the official website and click on the Windows 64-bit entry . At the end of the download, extract the .zip file you just obtained and run the executable , to start the program.qphotorec_win.exe

In the window that you will see open, click on the drop-down menu located at the top and select the disk or external drive on which to search for the files to be recovered (you can also connect a USB key or a microSD extracted from a smartphone or other device).

Then select the main partition of the disk in the space below . In the case of Windows PC disks you can easily recognize it because it is normally the one that has the NTFS file system . Once this is done, remember to click on the Complete item in the right pane to tell the program to search for your files on the entire partition and finally choose where to save the recovered files . I advise you to create a special folder, perhaps calling it Recovery .

At the bottom click on the File formats button and select only the formats you are interested in recovering (photos are often in .jpg and .png formats ). At this point you can finally press Search and PhotoRec will automatically retrieve and save all the photos it finds in the folder you previously selected.

Other programs to recover deleted photos from PC

    Stellar Data Recovery

I want to recommend another program to recover files. This is Stellar Data Recovery . To download it, simply go to the official website and press the Free Download button . Once you have downloaded the program you can start the executable file obtained.

As a first step Windows will ask you for confirmation if you want to allow the program to make changes to the PC. Answer Yes and the installer will ask you in which language you want to continue the installation. Select Italian and press OK .

The next screen just gives you some basic information, quietly press Next , then accept the terms of the license agreement and click Next again . At this point the installation program will automatically download additional resources it needs for the installation: the procedure is automatic so you simply have to wait and give the program time to do its job. At the end of the procedure you can click on Finish and Stellar Data Recovery will start automatically.

The program is very intuitive to use. The first screen will ask you what type of file you want to recover. Click on All data to uncheck everything, and then select Photos at the bottom left, then click Next .

In the screen that appears now you have to select where you want to search. If you have connected a USB stick you will see it appear together with your computer’s hard disk. Once you have chosen the disk and possibly the folders where you want to focus the search, you can choose whether or not to do the deep scan by clicking on the item below (I recommend yes if you want the best chance of recovering the photos, even if this will make the procedure longer), and then click Scan .

The procedure will go on automatically and a window with results will appear. You can browse the found files easily and once you have selected the files you want to recover click on Recover Free Download button , choose whether to purchase the license or not and on the next screen you will have to select where to save the recovered data by clicking on Browse and then on Start saving.https://www.stellarinfo.com/free-data-recovery.php

At this point you will be able to find your files saved in the folder you have chosen yourself. The cost of the full version of the program is 49 euros for the basic package.

If you want to try other programs to recover deleted photos you can follow my guide where I tell you about other options available to you.

How to recover permanently deleted photos from Google Photos

    Google Photos

Google Photos is the famous Google service that allows you to automatically backup your photos and videos to the cloud. It is available both on Android and iPhone / iPad devices , and on PC .

If you have unintentionally deleted photos from Google Photos you can check the app’s Trash , which you can find by tapping the Collection button and then the Trash button . If you prefer to proceed from a PC, however, you can access the Recycle Bin by visiting this page and logging into your Google account .

Warning: if you have inadvertently deleted a file from the Google Photos Recycle Bin, unfortunately it is impossible to recover it: the only attempt you can make is to scan the memory of your device (the one on which the photo to be recovered was originally located) with recovery software data mentioned in the previous steps of this guide.
