Huawei Mate 40, meet the new Huawei titan with curved screen

The most relevant Chinese mobile manufacturer in the world has just presented the Huawei Mate 40 family ; We recently brought you our first impressions of the Mate 40 Pro model, but this time we want to review what the most basic device of its series has to offer.

The Huawei Mate 40 is a terminal that, due to its excellent features, we cannot ignore, including a 6.5-inch screen with pronounced curvature, a triple camera with a 50MP RYYB main sensor and a very powerful Kirin 9000E chip.

If we give ourselves to the task of detailing the Huawei Mate 40, we will notice the trend of continuity of the brand in terms of design, but sprinkled with the occasional innovation or detail that makes it feel fresh, starting with the 6.5-inch OLED screen ( FullHD + resolution of 2,376 x 1,080 pixels) with a pronounced 68 ° curvature at the edges . This curvature can be used to perform actions such as adjusting the volume by sliding your finger over it.

Going into detail, this panel has a perforation in the upper left corner that houses a 13MP camera and offers a higher than average refresh rate, we are talking about 90Hz with 240Hz sampling . As if the above mentioned were not enough, the terminal screen complies with the DCI-P3 color space, consists of certification for HDR content and incorporates a fingerprint reader.

On the other hand, the rear cover is familiar to us, with a large, circular photographic module and with the LEICA seal in the center. It is the home of 3 photographic sensors accompanied by their respective LED flash.

Other details that remain to be mentioned are: the presence of IP53 certification against water / dust and Huawei’s curious decision to keep the volume and home buttons on the right side.

Kirin 9000E on board

The Huawei Mate 40 series debuts with the new 5 nanometer SOC Kirin 9000E, which provides similar performance to that offered by its bigger brothers, with the notable differences being in the power of the GPU and the NPU, with the latter promising performance. 2.4 times better than the Snapdragon 865+ in artificial intelligence tasks.

Despite these differences, Huawei’s 5G modem is still present, making the terminal compatible with next-generation ultra-fast mobile networks.

Also, the Mate 40 has 8GB of RAM along with 128GB of internal storage. The battery that powers this high-end titan is a 4,200mAh unit with 46W fast charging , which is not bad, but it does not stand out either, especially for the cost of this device.

As happens every time we talk about a Huawei device, it is necessary to address the issue of the operating system to inform potential consumers. And it is that neither the Huawei Mate 40 or its older brothers include Google services; Users of this terminal (and of any Huawei mobile phone after the commercial veto) will have to use the AppGallery and the Huawei Mobile Services provided by EMUI 11.

The photographic department is very important to this company, which is why the Huawei Mate 40 could not afford to disappoint us. This mobile shows off with a triple camera headed by the same main sensor as the higher models, a 50MP SuperSensing RYYB lens with f / 1.9 aperture and 23-millimeter focal length.

This sensor is accompanied by a wide-angle sensor with a resolution of 16MP (f / 2.2 ) and by an 8MP telephoto (f / 2.4); It is worth mentioning that the latter adds optical image stabilization and 5x optical zoom to the set.
