If you are missing any of the most popular GTA mods, there is a reason: Take-Two orders their withdrawal
Rockstar’s parent company has changed the mod policy and is taking down several projects for the DMCA.
It seems that from Take Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, they are getting serious with the dreaded DMCA , and are claiming copyrights of several of the most popular mods in the GTA saga , knocking down their access. This is how they tell it from PC Gamer.
At the beginning of the year they already gave hints of their intentions by taking down content that they intended to make versions of GTA 3 and GTA Vice City . Now, in the last few days they have gotten serious and issued several notices to mod authors due to copyright infringement, such as mods like the popular Vice City Overhaul from GTA 5 .
Take Two appears to have become less permissive since a change in its mod policiesA thread on GTAForums , a portal dedicated to the brand, has been listing all the deletions that have taken place in the last hours. There are many and if you are regulars to the contents of the Rockstar sandbox they will sound like: GTA: Underground or Vice Cry , for example. In addition to other mods that do with San Andreas ports of Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories, two adventures that never made it to PC.
The forum components also echo a change in Rockstar’s policies on mods, indicating that they were updated in 2019 and therefore, now it is not possible to “use or import other IPs in projects, including those of Rockstar” , as well as “making new games, history or maps”. And that is something that was not attached to the original document.
