The Kobo brand of Fnac has just announced a new quite peculiar electronic reader, the Kobo Elipsa , what is peculiar about it? Well, not only does it serve to enjoy our favorite books, but it also serves as a writing tablet; effectively merging the experience into a single coherent product that we will learn about below.
Kobo Elipsa : Kobo Elipsa, eReader and electronic notebook in one package
For starters, it has a Letter 1200 electronic ink panel, with a size of 10.3 inches and a resolution of 1,404 x 1,872 pixels). The screen is anti-glare, has an adjustable brightness (with ComfortLight technology ) and supports a Stylus pen for taking notes, drawing pictures, among other things.
Its dimensions obviously put it in the same territory as many smart tablets (193 x 227.5 x 7.6mm); so it includes a stylish and versatile case, which is designed to protect the device at all times (SleepCover).
Inside it consists of a humble 1.8Ghz quad-core processor along with 1GB of RAM, but this is not really important in an electronic reader. With that said, it packs a 32GB internal storage and is powered by a 2,400mAh battery.
However, the interesting thing about the Kobo Elipsa is how it narrows the gap between reading on paper and writing by hand with the digital environment. In this sense, the Kobo Stylus allows the user to annotate, highlight or doodle in the eBooks , having many customization options for the pen. It should be noted that this feature is not available for all files, it all depends on the digital rights or permission limitations that apply to the case.
But that’s not all, the My Notebooks feature provides a dedicated space for taking notes , and when combined with MyScript technology, the Kobo Elipsa can transform handwriting into typed text in the blink of an eye.
Additionally, there is a connection to Dropbox to quickly import and share written documents or notebooks from the Kobo reader. Finally, the reader is equipped with Wi-Fi and a USB Type-C port to cover the connectivity section.
Availability and price
The Kobo Elipsa will be available for 399,99 euros in kobo.com , fnac.es and physical stores of Fnac. The reservation will be available online on May 20 and the device can be purchased in physical stores and online on June 24.
