MUSIC FROM 3 TO 6 YEARS OLD
“They think that, being small and young, nothing big can come of me”
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Thus began one of the greatest geniuses in the history of music, gifted with a rare and precocious talent, which led him to write his first musical compositions from the age of 5. But it is not necessary to have a child with the same innate talent as Mozart to bring him closer to music!
In the range between 3 and 5 years of age, if we want our child to continue or start making music, we can enroll him in a preparatory group course where, together with other children, he can discover the “musical universe” in a fun way. and playful but at the same time formative and educational. These courses, held mainly by associations or musical schools outside the school structures, have the purpose of stimulating the curiosity of children towards the outside world, developing their musical skills (the rhythmic sense, the melodic and harmonic ear, the familiarization with the musical notation) and their ability to express feelings and emotions with and through music.
In fact , music is a “magical” art that produces different effects, even in small children like them: music is the ability to listen, it is a stimulus to the imagination, it is the way to go to discover, experience and express emotions, it is ability to perceive the space around you and to experience it by dancing and dancing … or to sit down to learn to relax.
The use of the voice, with which to learn to sing, and of the body, with which to move and dance, is the first discovery that the child will make by participating in a musical preparatory course; he will discover that his voice and his body are the musical instruments that will remain with him throughout his life, as they evolve and as they change over time and space.
At a later stage, these courses usually aim to introduce the various musical instruments following a gradual and playful path, which begins with the presentation of an instrument and listening to the sound it produces, continues with the application of the drawing and finally with the imitation performed by the body and the voice; dancing lightly to the sound of a flute or using rhythmic instruments in imitation of a percussion instrument, allows children to have fun, teaches them to relate to others and express their mood.
The final objective of the course is to guide and direct each child to the choice of the musical instrument for a possible future path. If this discovery turns into attention and interest in a musical dimension, it is then that the child will ask to start playing a real musical instrument. And how, as parents, can we help him choose the right tool for him? … We will find out together in the next article!
