How to create pictures with bubbles

While not a generally encouraged practice at the dinner table, what kid (with a full glass and straw) won’t try to blow bubbles? Now take that passion for exploratory science and turn it into a fascinating art technique. Add a few drops of dish soap, food coloring to the water and the puff of bubbles will create intriguing and unique patterns.

    Necessary Material

    • straws
    • liquid food coloring
    • dishwashing liquid
    • paper

    Instructions

1- Put a small amount of water in the bottom of a wide-rimmed glass or small bowl. Add food coloring or liquid watercolor and several drops of dish soap.2- Blow with a straw until the bubbles rise above the rim of the glass.TIP: To prevent a younger child from sucking the bubble mixture, make a small cut near the top of the straw. Dispose of the cut piece carefully to avoid the risk of suffocation.3- Gently lower a piece of paper over the bubbles, then lift. The paper will pop bubbles, leaving unique circular patterns on the paper.4- Repeat until the prints cover the entire paper.
(You can use two or more containers with different colors to create more colorful scenarios)

Optional: add a fish for an underwater mural or let the children get inspired by their imagination and choose how to enrich the “canvas”.
