The patches for clothing refer to a piece of fabric or other material such as paper or skin, among others, sticking on a garment or accessory, usually patching something, for example, cover a hole.

This is how patches got into the world of sewing. However, it is currently also made to decorate or personalize a garment.

The typology of embroidered patches that exist covers:

  • Embroidered iron-on patches . This type of patches are those that are glued by using the iron thanks to a hot melt sheet that allows the heat of the iron to be applied. They are normally used on fabrics such as jeans or cotton.
  • Embroidered patches to sew on . These types of patches stay on for life and generally stick to synthetic or delicate fabrics.
  • Other patches . You can also make an embroidered patch on an adhesive fabric, stick and remove. However, its durability is usually less. Likewise, it is possible to manufacture them in velcro and magnet.

Therefore, although it may seem like it, sewing a patch is not a complicated task. Why don’t you start customizing that denim jacket you sure have in your closet?

How to sew a zipper

The zipper or closure is a toothed device that is usually applied in the manufacture of garments. Its application is reserved for clothing such as jackets, coats or pants, as well as luggage such as backpacks, suitcases or purses.

Its use is none other than joining or separating pieces of fabric , as well as increasing the size of the suitcases. Apart from the zipper, you will find other closures such as eyelets and buttons, closures with press studs, with brackets or with magnets, among others.

Zippers are manufactured in different ways and with different materials (nylon, metal, plastic, etc.) so that they can be adjusted to different types of garments and fabrics. In this way, you will find: centered zippers, hidden zippers, invisible zippers, etc.

You can sew a zipper by hand or by machine; Of course, we recommend the sewing machine, since its finish is usually more professional. Remember, however, that you will need to purchase the presser foot for your zipper sewing machine.
