The day Steve Jobs changed the course of history (of our life). It has been more than 14 years, specifically on January 9, 2007, at the Macworld conference held in San Francisco, that the then CEO of the company Apple Computer Inc. – from that presentation Apple Inc., to dry – He said that of “Today, we are going to make some history.” This is how Steve Jobs began the event in which the company’s first telephone would be presented, a revolutionary terminal that would destroy the market standards and that would mark the way forward by the mobile industry in subsequent years, at that time Nokia was dominating the market with Symbian as the dominant operating system and Android would still take a year to make its appearance on the first ‘Google Phone’, the HTC Dream.
“The iPhone is a revolutionary and magical product that is literally five years ahead of any other mobile phone,” said Jobs. The vision it demonstrated is beyond any doubt, despite the fact that the detractors of the new product were numerous: “Without a keyboard? It has no future”, criticized many; “Wherever a PDA is …”, thought others. This device did not reach the Spanish market and we had to wait for the iPhone 3G, which came to Spain by the hand of Telefónica in the summer of 2008. One of the main novelties presented by this was the ‘App Store’ for iPhone launched on July 10 2008 with 500 apps! That was the true turning point where everything changed.
The App Store “lit the fuse of a cultural, social and economic phenomenon that changed the way people work, play, meet, travel and much more.” That same year, on September 9, 100 million downloads were exceeded, and on October 22, Google launched its Android Market. The rest is history. As a curiosity, 66.6% of the world population has a mobile and 96.6% is a smartphone. The most downloaded apps in history are Facebook (and its Messenger) and WhatsApp, and to which we have dedicated the most time to Netflix and Tinder. And a fact to reflect: this year you will invest a full 40 days just in them, the apps on your mobile.
