Huawei Mate 40 Pro first impressions: design
Huawei has done an excellent job in the design section of this model. And it is because it knows how to cause us that WOW effect from the first moment we have it in our hands. The front, spectacular on its own thanks to its 88-degree curvature and its “infinite screen” Horizon Display with double perforated camera, is relegated to the background to give prominence to a rear that is simply spectacular.
The Mate series has always been characterized by offering an iconic design and it is precisely one of the things that we appreciate again in these first impressions of the Huawei Mate 40 Pro. The camera module is wrapped in a ring in black , with the center with the Leica logo and the same color as the rest of the terminal, in my case, the Mystic Silver.
The silver color of this device will keep you haunted thanks to its polished iridescent effect , very elegant and spectacular. One detail that I have loved is that the footprints are not marked , something that I think is essential so that the user is not forced to carry a cover at all times. The new Huawei Mate 40 Pro is not only beautiful, it is one of those things that, the more you look at it, the more you like it.
The side frames are very discreet thanks to that curved screen, but they have space to house a red on / off button and physical volume +/- buttons on the right side. In the upper frame there is a speaker, while in the lower frame there is another speaker, the drawer for the SIM card and the USB-C charging port. The color of these frames is shiny silver aluminum.
On the front , as I already anticipated, the screen takes center stage, cascading down the sides and giving a true immersion effect. In the upper left corner is the double camera that we will analyze in depth in the full review of the device,
It should be noted that the packaging includes a transparent silicone sleeve to protect the terminal without damaging its design. It is somewhat slippery , so I do recommend, at least in the first months of use, that you use some type of protection. Despite its large dimensions, it is a very comfortable device to hold and can be controlled with one hand with a little dexterity.
First impressions: how it works and key features
Beyond being a pretty face, in these first impressions of the Huawei Mate 40 Pro I have been able to verify that it is also a device that lives up to expectations . The 120 Hz screen is very noticeable, with excellent fluidity in the passage of menu transitions, multimedia, etc. The quality of the screen , OLED and with a resolution of 2772 x 1344 pixels, leaves very good results both indoors and outdoors.
I notice a very interesting improvement in facial recognition , which works flawlessly, like the fingerprint sensor on the screen , with high effectiveness and requires less pressure than in previous generations of Huawei smartphones, but it still has a drawback. that, personally, I find it somewhat uncomfortable and that is that when you place your finger on the screen off, the sensor light puts a somewhat shocking flash, especially if you are using the mobile at night.
The sound, without being excellent, has left me a very good taste in my mouth in these first impressions of the Huawei Mate 40 Pro, since thanks to its double speaker, greater clarity, less reverberation and better volume levels are achieved.
The Huawei Mate 40 Pro incorporates many extras, the kind that make the user experience revalue, such as the ability to control the volume from the screen instead of using the physical buttons or the wide angle of the selfie camera, which is activated automatically when you flip the phone to a horizontal position.
As for the software and to finish this brief review of our first impressions of the Huawei Mate 40 Pro, it incorporates EMUI 11 , based on Android 10 and with the Huawei Mobile Services . It should be noted that, for a few months now, the AppGallery application and game store has grown like foam in the number of contents, something that is very noticeable when it comes to being able to use the terminal completely and that makes us forget of that absence of Google that every time is something more anecdotal than priority.
Availability and price of the Mate 40 Pro
The Huawei Mate 40 Pro is priced at 1,199 euros.
