Learn Latin in High School
The Latin option in secondary education and high school in Spain can only be taken if you are enrolled in the Humanities branch . Although it is better to have studied Latin in 4th year of ESO, it is not essential: 1st year of Baccalaureate is conceived as a consolidation and deepening of the contents of 4th year of ESO.
In the case of 2nd year of Baccalaureate, it is based on the fact that students have studied Latin in 1st year and have acquired the fundamental contents of Latin grammar, although they are reviewed again in 2nd year.
The objective of this Latin course is to continue and expand the knowledge of grammar necessary to be able to address the understanding, analysis and translation of the authors who are proposed for the University entrance exams.
If you have chosen the Humanities branch, Latin and Greek are compulsory in the PAU. The exams vary according to the Autonomous Community, although they generally consist of:
- A translation,
- A morphosyntax question,
- Lexicon,
- Questions about Literature.
You have to prepare well, both mentally and physically (healthy eating, correct hydration, stress management) to prepare for the Latin test.
