The Witcher games without Geralt? In CD Projekt RED they raised that option with the first installment
At the WitcherCon event, developers from the Polish studio admitted that they planned to make a “witch editor.”
At this point, we cannot conceive of the universe of The Witcher saga without embodying Geralt of Rivia . But it is an idea that crossed the mind of CD Projekt RED when they created the first installment of the saga. Those responsible have said that at the recent WitcherCon event , where in addition to learning about the future of the license, we have also been able to learn about curiosities from the past.
From CDP they did not take long to discard the idea due to the charisma of Geralt de RiviaThe designers of the Polish studio Phillipp Weber and Blazej Augustynek assured at the event that initially Geralt was not going to be the star of the saga at first. At the beginning of the development of the adapted works of Andrzej Sapkowski, they considered following the line of other western development RPGs , giving players the freedom to create their own sorcerer, bypassing the White Wolf along the way. But the complexity of the plot of the literary universe of The Witcher made them change their minds.
“For the first few years, basically, we tried to do it so that you could create your own witcher, and set you to explore new lands. But then again and again, the question arose, you know. The game is called The Witcher,” he says Weber. “At some point, I think we all figured it out . If we wanted to be Geralt of Rivia, we wanted to be The Witcher.”
Now in perspective, it’s hard to imagine how the franchise would have fitted without Geralt as the lead . At WitcherCon we had other announcements, such as the first trailer for the second season of a Netflix series , the announcement of a new animated series or details about the version for PS5 and Xbox Series of The Witcher 3 .
