What is the difference between Pilates and yoga?
This is a fairly frequent question among people who have not tried either of the two disciplines. Perhaps it is because they have become popular almost at the same time or because from what we have seen in videos or in photos it seems to us that in and classes they do “almost the same thing.”
There is also a widespread belief that Pilates and yoga are useful for stretching after exercising. They are actually much more than that and they are also two different disciplines. We are not going to deny that they have points in common and certain similarities, but they are not the same. It would be like saying that badminton and tennis are the same. Or claim that all martial arts are the same.
The common points that Pilates and yoga have is that in both disciplines we work our body through our own body weight and that breathing is essential.
However, yoga has a spiritual component that Pilates does not have, which is based on the physical .
In addition, neither the development of the class is the same, nor the movements that are carried out nor the way of working the parts of the body is the same.
