What is the Great Wall of China?
The Great Wall of China is probably the most famous and largest monument built by the Chinese people. It is also the largest monument ever built by man, be it in length, area and mass!
An impressive monument!
The construction of the Great Wall of China began in the 3rd century BC, under the Qin dynasty. Many legends surround its construction; the most famous is that there were many Chinese workers who died working and their bodies were used as materials. But they are only legends, of course!
Another popular legend is that the Great Wall can be seen from space . A statement made by Taiwanese Yang Liwei in 2003, which is obviously totally false. The taikonauts are astronauts Republic of China. The wall is as wide as a road and therefore impossible for astronauts to see with the naked eye.
Listed in 1987 on the UNESCO World Heritage register , the Great Wall of China remains one of the most popular landmarks in Asia today.
However, its popularity is not always a good thing, as due to the large number of visitors, the wall has started to deteriorate, as stated in an alarming 2015 report on its conservation.
What if you go to the Chinese land to help protect this architectural wonder?
