How to learn Italian alone?
If, like me, you are learning “buongiorno” and “il forno” (essential for baking pizzas), you have chosen to learn Italian on your own .
The ideal solution to avoid having to follow a schedule and study when you really feel like it.
But it is surely your first mistake. Because indeed, it is essential to impose a rhythm , even when you are your own teacher. Otherwise, everyday life and small vicissitudes will soon take over and you will end up forgetting your goal of getting in touch with the handsome Erasmus student who has just arrived at your university.
In order for your brain to retain what you have already learned, you need to make it work regularly. Choose a weekly schedule to respect. You can even set your own multi-month schedule. That will motivate you when you see the goals you have set for yourself.
And do not forget that to learn a language there are not only books.
Divorzio all’italiana is a film released in 1961.
Take advantage of all available resources , such as radio or movies on the internet.
They will help you progress as you get used to listening to Italian. Start by watching movies first, subtitled if necessary. Then, little by little, remove the subtitles. Your brain will then strain to understand the dialogues.
Once you are familiar with the images, delete them. Go to the radio. This allows you to better focus on the words , without being distracted by the images. However, you can only count on your understanding of the language to decipher what they are saying. A real challenge!
