School failure in the public education system: is there an effective solution?
The figures from different surveys show that, over the years, school failure is increasing. In fact, Spain is the EU leader in school failure. ¿ What can the education system ?
It is estimated that almost 20% of young people between the ages of 18 and 24 have left the education system prematurely without a complete secondary education. Although the overall percentage has fallen by 1.9% in the last year, the total is still well above the European average. Other countries with the highest school failure rate are Malta (19.8%) and Romania (19.1%). This figure is considerably lower in Croatia (2.8%), Slovenia (5%), Cyprus (5.3%) and Poland (5.3%).
According to the Ministry of Education, the school dropout rate varies enormously depending on the Autonomous Communities. Thus, although the state average is 19.7%, the highest percentages are found in Melilla, Ceuta, the Balearic Islands and Murcia. However, the Eurostat data regarding university education in our country are curious. 42% of young people between 30 and 34 years old have higher education.
