Sports in France are as intrinsic to French culture as croissants and red wine. Participation is as high as interest; the French are very proud of their athletes . Some of the most popular French sports include soccer, tennis, cycling, handball, basketball, and rugby.
When it comes to football , France has the distinction of being one of only three nations to have won consecutive major tournaments, such as the FIFA World Cup, the UEFA Euro and the FIFA Confederations Cup.
PSG is the best known team.
The tennis is one of the most rooted sports, and every year during the spring, the best clay court specialists of the world converge at Roland Garros to test their skills.
While it is true that France did not establish an official handball team until the early 1990s, it has since won several tournaments. In fact, they have been World Championship winners in 1995, 2001, 2009, 2011, 2015 and 2017.
You can not talk about the popular sports in the country not to mention the cycling and the Tour de France , known internationally. This cycling event takes place every July and lasts for three grueling weeks. Did you know that the first tour was organized in 1903?
The national basketball team is the Fédération Française de Basket-Ball, and they claimed their first major title in 2013 at EuroBasket 2013 in Slovenia.
Finally, the Rugby Union is very popular in France and, in fact, its rugby team is considered one of the strongest in Europe. Each year, France participates in the Six Nations Championship, along with England, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales. And they have won 15 times! Sport in France
