Cinema in Spanish: transmitter of the language of Cervantes
The Lumière brothers had the wonderful idea of inventing cinema. This adventure, which began in 1895, has undergone an incredible evolution. From silent movies in black and white, through color cinema to animated films and 3D.
Although the seventh art has not existed for more than a century, it is the most evolved artistic expression of contemporary times. The artistic currents have been happening at full speed and have given way to a large number of innovations in just one generation.
Each film is the reflection of a society at a specific moment. It shows its landmarks, traditions, customs and also its linguistic characteristics. Philologists themselves sometimes turn to the cinema to record these variations, as do researchers specializing in contemporary history.
Cinema came to our country in 1896. The first Spanish film with a plot was Riña en un café (1897) by Fructuós Gelabert. Later on, theatrical adaptations were made and the cursed village (Florián Rey) and Un perro andaluz (Buñuel and Dalí) reached the international scene . Later on, child actors (Joselito, Marisol…) became famous with films like Marcelino pan y vino , known worldwide.
At present, we can affirm without fear of being wrong that Spanish cinema crosses borders. You just have to see the success of The Other Side of the Bed, The Sea Inside, Alatriste, The Orphanage, The Impossible, Ágora, Eight Basque Surnames … Cinema in Spanish: transmitter of the language of Cervantes
