Procedures to be a student in Portugal
Don’t worry, it’s not complicated at all! You just have to organize!
Before taking the step and going to Portugal to continue your studies and improve your grammar, phonetics and sounds of Portuguese, you should prepare and learn about the procedures to study in Portugal .
Portugal is part of the Schengen area like Spain, which means that you can go freely and stay there for three months simply with your DNI.
The passport is not mandatory for Spaniards , but you must have a valid ID. Make sure it is not expired and, if it is, you must go to the National Police to renew it. It costs € 12 and is valid for 5 years (if you are under 30) or 10 years (if you are older).
Therefore, being a Spanish student, you do not need a visa , but if you stay for more than a term and less than a year, you must request a temporary residence permit from the competent services when you arrive. If you stay for more than a year, it will be necessary to apply for a Portuguese residence card .
If you want to do an internship abroad , you only need a work permit.
To enroll in the university, you must have a Baccalaureate degree and apply for an equivalent at the Portuguese Ministry of Education. The university entrance exam depends on each one, but generally consists of 1 to 3 subjects.
Depending on the length of your stay , you may need to open a bank account, hire a phone line, electricity or water. To do this, they will ask you for the same documentation as in Spain.
To make you understand, the ideal is to have a perfect command of Portuguese pronunciation, intonation and vocabulary.
