The Rainbow Village
It will seem like you are in a story. Photo by A World Away .
The ” rainbow town ” is located near the city of Taichung and, as the name suggests, it is a town full of color.
Its origin is not so colorful, since it is a military settlement that was built to house the National Revolutionary Army after its defeat against the Chinese Communist Party.
After years of emptiness, the government was determined to tear down the building as it was not used for anything in particular and was witness to a troubled past. It is said that a retired soldier, Huang Yung-Fu, had the idea to fill it with colors and drawings and now it is one of the most beloved buildings on the island.
It is amazing how color can completely change the essence of a place and the environment it creates. It is a great lesson to understand that it is not necessary to destroy something for something better to be born.
