How to make eyes with an embroidery?
Within the embroidery technique, there are elements that are not too intuitive for us. This is particularly the case with the eyes. Although everyone has their own technique, there are embroidery stitches that are more or less useful for making eyes .
However, the important thing is to know that there are as many eye styles as there are embroiderers on earth. In fact, embroidery does not follow a particular code, but invents its own creation just as it feels. In this way, the artist can mix knitting with crocheting, beads, sequins and other accessories that spark his imagination.
Therefore, there is no single way to make eyes in embroidery.
You should also know that we do not always make the eyes in the same way depending on whether we work on a linen canvas, or Aida, or if we work with an object in 3D. In fact, pricking a doll is often much more complicated than running the needle down and up on a flat canvas.
But keep in mind that there are some points that may be of interest to you:
- The stem point.
- The cross stitch.
- The knot or French point.
- The flat point.
These four points are often used when creating eyes in embroidery.
The stem point allows you to draw lines and therefore the contours of the eye. Cross stitch, very easy to learn, allows you to achieve a complete eye without much difficulty . To embroider on a doll or other object, the knot stitch allows, as its name suggests, to make a small knot as an eye . The flat stitch allows you to fill an eye as in the cross stitch.
Regardless of which shape you choose to make the eye, practice beforehand by making a series of eyes on canvas or other material so that you can practice and improve.
