Old English: English history
Before 700 the Germanic tribes came to Great Britain.

Early Modern English: between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, English takes shape in terms of its structure. In effect, spelling and grammar are fixed.
Latin and Greek nevertheless continue to permeate and influence the English language, but they are not the only ones.
The renaissance, marked by openness to the world, opens its doors to all languages, which will mark Shakespeare’s language to a small or large extent.
Modern English
Latin has an increasing influence on English.
Used primarily as a scientific and technical language, it will occupy an important place during the industrial revolution.
At the end of the 18th century, the trend was reversed, and the English took the lead. It then extends from Ireland and North America to Australia.
